A casino is headed to central Ohio and voters will decide the location.
Issue 2 is a proposed state constitutional amendment that will determine whether the casino will be built in the Arena District or on Columbus’ far west side.
Depending on what voters say, Penn National Gaming will either use a 123-acre west-side location at the former site of the General Motors auto parts plant, or they will build on 18 acres in the Arena District.
Last November, Ohioans approved four casinos to be places in Columbus, Cleveland, Cincinnati and Toledo, however in Columbus, the arena site is located in Franklyn County. An area where 58% of voters voted “no” on the casino issue.
The mayor and Penn National worked out an alternative plan that involved the former auto plant.
Tuesday’s vote will ultimately decide the Columbus Casino location.
