The Tribal Council of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians is considering building a casino in Jones County. If approved, this would be the tribe’s second gambling venue in the state.
According to reports, representatives of the Choctaw Nation met with county officials last week to brief them on the plans.
The Choctaw’s proposal calls for the casino to be housed in a 27,000 square foot building and contain only a snack bar. No gaming tables will be permitted, only electronic games like video slots, video poker, and video bingo would be available in the facility.
Also, officials say they may not offer alcohol for the first few years.
The site is located near Sandersville on the tribal-owned Bogue Homa community, one of 10 communities comprising the Choctaw reservation.
Tribal spokesman Warren Strain said Friday the tribal council is tentatively set to vote on the proposed development May 19th.
“The whole thing is still in the developmental stages,” Strain said. “This thing is literally changing as we’re going through.”
Strain said nothing would be concrete until the tribal council votes.
