The fate of Iowa’s gaming market rest in the hands of the five members of the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission today, as they meet to vote on applications for four new casino licenses.

The commission is expected to vote on whether or not a casino license should be granted on license bids in Fort Dodge, Ottumwa, Tama County and Lyon County.

Governor Chet Culver has urged the commission to approve all four casinos that could help to create hundreds of new jobs and generate $250 million in economic activity.

However those opposed are concerned that the additional casinos will add competition and take revenue away from the 17 casinos already operational, with many of the proposals within miles of those existing facilities.
