Kangwon Land Casino says they will double the size of their gaming facility to strengthen the competitiveness of the resort against Korea’s 16 other casinos and 130 in Asia including the booming Macau area.
The casino is Asia’s only gambling venue opened to Korean citizens and has become overcrowded with 3.4 million visitors last year.
Choi Young, CEO of Kangwon Land said that expansion plans will be completed by early 2012 and will include a larger casino, hotels, a golf course, a ski slope, condominiums and a theme park.
Choi said a total of US $1.2 billion will be spent on the project and that the government has approved development to move forward.
“The deepening competition within the Asian casino industry has made it essential for us to establish a vision to become Asia’s best four-season resort,” said Choi.
