California State Senator Rod Wright, a democrat from Inglewood, has proposed a new bill that would allowing online gambling in the state.
According to Wright’s plan, the state would award up to three contracts to California-based operators to run intrastate online poker gaming.
His proposal provides lawful Internet gambling games to California residents. Players would have to register with the state for a period of just five years.
With the introduction of online gambling, the creation of the Internet Gambling Fund will follow. In the fund, operators would have to make monthly deposits of at least 20 percent of gross revenues.
The legislation initiated by Wright makes it illegal for any person in California to play an Internet gambling game that is not authorized by the state.
Supporters feel that this bill revolutionize the industry.
According to Augustine Casino gaming commissioner, Michael Lombardi, this could be “the most profitable Internet gaming market in the world. California is seen as the one state that could successfully operate this because of the number of people and its demographics.”
