New York’s latest attempt to secure a casino operator to run slots at the Aqueduct Racetrack has attracted six bidders.
Three of the previous bidders, Delaware North, Penn National Gaming and S.L. Green Realty Corp have submitted their $1 million entry fee, along with three new contenders including Empire City Casino/Yonkers Raceway, Genting New York LLC and Clairvest Group.
The lead investor in the Clairvest Group was also an investor in Aqueduct Entertainment Group which was denied a gaming license after being declared the winning bidder earlier this year. Governor Patterson was accused of awarding the lucrative 30 year contract to Aqueduct Entertainment Group for political reasons, since Penn National offered a higher price for the racino.
All six bidders must submit final bid proposals to the state’s lottery division by June 29 and a winner is expected to be selected and presented to Governor Patterson and legislative leaders by the first week in August.
