The New Jersey State Senate is considering a gambling bill that would allow online casino gambling for Garden State residents.
The state Senate wagering and tourism committee has put forward new legislation that may someday permit blackjack, baccarat, craps and other casino games that are featured in Atlantic City to become available on the Internet.
Sen. Ray Lesniak, the bill sponsor, hopes that the state can cash in on what could amount to $150 million industry. He estimates that nearly 500,000 residents currently already have accounts with online poker sites.
“This bill will provide an astounding number of revenues and jobs for the state of New Jersey for our casinos who are struggling and for reinvestment in Atlantic City,” said Lesniak.
According to Lesniak, the bill will allow the Atlantic City’s 11 casinos to create websites for New Jerseyans to bet online, thus adding a huge boost to the struggling casinos.
