As Delaware racinos launch table games to their patrons, lawmakers have decided to put the pending vote for more casinos on hold.

The state’s three existing gaming operations have strongly opposed the expansion, arguing that they are already facing strong competition from Maryland and that table games should be given a chance to grow operations before competing against more casinos in their own state.

Table games are expected to bring 1,000 new jobs to the state and $40 million into state coffers, however more in state competition could result in layoffs and lower revenues.

“Lets let our table games come on board, generate more jobs and revenue, and be prepared for when Maryland comes, because that will hurt,” said Ed Sutor CEO of Dover Downs Hotel and Casino.

Delaware lawmakers have decided that a vote on the bill will wait until at least January.
