Penn National Gaming the owner of the Hollywood Casino Perryville in Cecil County Maryland will soon take delivery of over a thousand slot machines.
The state Board of Public Works has approved a $50 million contract allowing the state lottery division to purchase 1,062 slot machines for the casino slotted to open later this year.
Penn National gaming was licensed to operate up to 1,500 electronic gaming machines at the Hollywood Casino in 2008 and had announced last month that construction was expected to be completed by the end of the third quarter ahead of schedule.
Under the gaming laws passed by voter referendum the state will purchase and own the casinos slot machines to ensure greater regulatory oversight.
The Hollywood Casino will be the first to open in the state and officials are working on purchasing the remaining machines needed and hiring the 350 employees needed to staff the casino.
