Although gambling revenue almost reached the break-even point in April, Atlantic City revenue fell by 9% in May compared to the previous year.
Atlantic City’s 11 casinos have been experiencing a 3 1/2-year revenue slump since Pennsylvania began opening slot parlors in 2006. Pennsylvania now offers nine casinos and will increase competition further when table games go online next month.
The casinos combined took in $319.7 million in May, of which, $225.6 million came from slots and $94 million from table games.
Resorts Atlantic City was down 12.8%, Caesars Atlantic City was down 11.5%, Trump Marina Hotel Casino was down 10.9%, The Tropicana Casino and Resort was down 9.5%, Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort was down 9.3%, Harrah’s Resort Atlantic City was down 8.9%, Bally’s Atlantic City was down 7.7%, Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino was down 6.8%, Showboat Casino Hotel was down 6.7%, Atlantic City Hilton Casino Resort was down nearly 21% and the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa was down 5%.
So far this year, the casinos have won $1.49 billion, down 7.9 percent from the same period in 2009.
