With the Missouri Gaming Commission recently approving 24 hour gambling for the state’s 13 casinos, Ameristar Casinos will invest $14 million to expand the hotel portion of its riverboat casino in Kansas City, Missouri.
The expansion project will utilize the existing infrastructure to connect the new hotel structure featuring 80 rooms and 20 suites to the existing 184 room hotel. A fitness center will also be constructed.
According to Sean Bernard, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Ameristar Kansas City the property has led the market for nearly seven consecutive years and believes that the property will benefit from the additional room when 24 hour gambling goes into effect next month.
“Although we have a longstanding commitment to economic development in Kansas City, we have been careful in allocating our free cash flow and capital during the recession,” Ameristar Chief Executive Officer Gordon Kanofsky said. “We are moving forward with this hotel addition now because we believe it will produce an attractive return on our investment.”
