Casinos in the United States may have been hit extremely hard by recession, but there are certain players taking part in games that may have single-handily kept the industry alive in some markets.

There is no question that Asian players can be some of the heaviest betters around. With many casinos offering games such as baccarat, sic bo and pai gow that attract Asian gamers, a lot of these gambling halls rely on their business.

While there are no official numbers or studies taken on the subject, the Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods Resort Casino in Connecticut say that Asian gamers constitute about 20 to 25 percent of the casinos’ patrons.

In the Mohegan Sun there are 75 tables for baccarat, pai gow and sic bo and at Foxwoods there are 51 Asian table games with the 34 baccarat tables being the most popular at the site.

At Foxwoods, they have been adding these kinds of tables every year since they opened in 1992.

“After we increased the tables, we just have to make sure we fill them; and we’ve never had to take tables away,” said Steve Ma, Foxwoods vice president of Asian marketing. “The Asian customers like to gamble.”
