According to reports coming out of Las Vegas, Station Casinos may be getting themselves into trouble with labor leaders.
Union leaders are accusing the casino operator of being too aggressive in preventing workers from organizing.
Apparently, workers say that Station Casinos’ management has intimidating workers that are trying to form unions to represent themselves at the Las Vegas-based company.
The company owns all or part of 18 Las Vegas-area properties.
Culinary Workers Union Local 226 President Geoconda Arguello-Kline told Station workers Wednesday that the union will stand behind them.
“We will continue to organize,” Kline said.
The National Labor Relations Board is reviewing an official complaint and hearing is set Aug. 16 in Las Vegas on the 127-count complaint. The union calls this the largest ever against a Nevada casino company.
Representatives from Station say that they will defend themselves vigorously.
“We recognize and respect our team members’ right to be represented by a union if that’s what they choose to do,” Station Casinos spokeswoman Lori Nelson said in a statement. “But we continue to be amazed that union leadership uses its members’ dues in attempting to organize.”
Station feels that those dues would be better suited finding jobs for the thousands of Culinary Union members who have been laid off during this recession.
