Supporters of online gambling say that the regulation and taxation of legalized betting on the internet could take some of the pressure off the government’s revenue problems.

The American Gaming Association thinks the US Government could collect between $8 and $15 billion dollars in taxes from Internet gaming.

For years casino giants like Harrah’s and Station Casinos have pushed to legalize online gambling, however, the debate has fallen on deaf ears.

That is, until now.

Congressman Barney Frank’s latest attempt to lift the ban imposed under the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, is gathering momentum among legislators following its launch earlier this month.

According to reports, 23 Congressmen and women have already indicated that they will support the bill when it comes to a vote.

Frank plans to move the bill through his committee before the Congressional break in August.
