Angel Guillen followed up his second place finish of a week ago by becoming just the second Mexican bracelet winner in the 40-year history of the World Series of Poker (WSOP). Victor Perches became the first in 2006.

The most extraordinary part of the story is that Guillen has been playing tournaments for only six months. While Guillen might not be a familiar name to many, the 26-year-old player has done his country proud in 2009.

“In Mexico, poker isn’t legal so the growth in our country has been very slow,” said Guillen. “We’re trying to develop that with a group of players like my friends here.”

Aside from his first and second place WSOP finishes this past week, Guillen has a third-place finish at the Latin American Poker Tour as well as a 17th place at a tournament in Monte Carlo.

Guillen walked away with a cash prize of $530,548, the title of Event 32 Champion, and most importantly, his first WSOP gold bracelet.
