National Football League Commissioner Rodger Goodell came out to clear the air about the issue of gambling and the NFL this week.

There have been some reports in the press about what is conceived to be the league’s double standard when it comes to certain types of gambling verses others. Specifically the NFL embracing partnerships with state lotteries and then taking a hard-line stance against the sports betting that was approved in Delaware last month.

Some feel that there is no difference between the two.

“Gambling is gambling,” some Goodell critics say.

In responce to his critics, Goodell said in a newspaper interview earlier this week that the league is not intending to be “high and mighty” on gambling, but wants to distance itself from gambling on the outcome of games.

NFL owners approved a policy last month in which teams can collaborate with state lotteries on games featuring teams’ names and logos.

When asked about lotteries, Goodell said, “It’s a game of chance and it’s a scratch off. The outcome of our game, that’s a much different issue.”
