There were reports that Greg Mueller was deliberating whether or not to enter the $50,000 HORSE tournament, he didn’t.
Instead, he decided to enter Event 50, the $1,500 limit hold ‘em shootout.
As it turn out, Mueller made the right choice as he defeated the 571-player field and won his second WSOP bracelet of the 2009 World Series of Poker.
“It feels unbelievable, especially because the player I beat (Marc Naalden) is such a great limit hold ‘em player,” said Mueller. “He was the player coming into today who I thought would be the toughest to beat. I’m really, really happy with this one.”
Mueller now has three cashes in 2009 for more than $709,000. All three of his cashes have been final table appearances. Mueller currently sits fourth in Player of the Year standings.
Mueller said that he feels that the first victory is always very special, but winning a second time proves the first was not a fluke.
“There was less pressure this time, because I (had) already won one,” he said. “But you always want to win. If I would have got second, I would have gone home and pouted.
