The four major professional sports leagues along with the NCAA have filed suit against Delaware to block the state from implementing sports betting.

In federal court in Wilmington, the NFL, NBA, Major League Baseball, the NHL and the NCAA filed a complaint to stop Gov. Jack Markell and the Delaware State Lottery Office from taking bets on their games.

The leagues requested an expedited hearing on the matter, citing the state’s intention to launch the betting operation in time for the start of the National Football League season on Sept. 10.

The NFL contends that legalized betting on it’s games will cause, “irreparable harm to their reputation and goodwill.”

It is interesting that the National Football League talks about the integrity of it’s sport and how bad gambling on games would be, however, it is already legal in Nevada. They talk about right and wrong, their reputation, yet Mike Vick is about to be reinstated.

The truth of the matter is that it is all about the money. Legalized gambling on NFL games will be profitable to someone other than the league. The NFL just can’t bare to think that there is a lot of revenue out there to be made on football and they won’t be making any of it.
