Changes in how Missouri casinos conduct their business may be making it easier for problem gamblers to find their way into casinos to gamble.

In 1996, Missouri began a program where gambling addicts could register themselves to be banned from casinos and even be arrested for trespassing if caught on casino premises. More than 14,000 have signed up and that list is still in effect.

Last year, voters in the state did away with a $500 loss limit and now that means casinos no longer require identification from patrons to track how much money they’re spending.

Now officials are saying that without casinos checking ID, registered problem gamblers who have banned themselves have no problem getting into casinos if they change their minds and decide to gamble.

However, State regulators are saying that problem gamblers are still being caught. They say relapsed addicts are identified when they try to cash a check, get a cash advance on their credit card or when they try to claim a large jackpot. IRS forms must be filed for jackpot over $1,200.

So, in essence banned gamblers are only caught and arrested when they win, or are stupid enough to try and get their cash at the casino itself.
