State Legislators and the Seminole Tribe of Florida are moving closer to completing a gambling agreement that would allow the Seminoles to keep slot machines and card games at its Hard Rock casinos in return for $150 million in annual payments to the state.
Lawyers for both the tribe and the governor’s office have presented a plan to to House and Senate negotiators in Tallahassee.
Rep. Bill Galvano and the Senate president’s chief of staff Bud Kneip responded by explaining which provisions lawmakers wanted modified and the Seminole Tribal Council is expected to review any new material for approval.
“We’ll take it under review and get back to them,” said Max Osceola, Seminole councilman. Osceola said negotiations this week had brought the two sides closer.
If both sides do not agree to a deal by Monday, lawmakers can ask the U.S. Department of Interior to step in.
