In the Allegheny Mountains of West Virginia, the Greenbrier Resort is preparing to open a Casino.
The Tavern Casino, the resort’s temporary and introductory gambling facility, plans to open with table games this week pending approval from the State Lottery Commission.
State Lottery Director John Musgrave says there’s a good chance table games gambling will begin Thursday night at The Greenbrier. He has supervised the resort staff and has had them tirelessly going over a checklist of the many regulations that must be met before an already approved gambling license can be put into effect.
“They’re working awfully hard to get ready for an October 1st opening and we are trying to assist them every way we can,” said Musgrave. “They have to meet all of our requirements.”
The Tavern Casino will have eight Blackjack tables, one Three Card Poker table and a Roulette Wheel in operation for the opening and eventually about 40 video slot machines.
A new, $25 million, permanent casino underneath the historic resort’s front lawn is already under construction and is set to be ready in the spring.
